FLINT, MI – On May 18th Latinx hosted its 2nd 2024 Community Clean Up along with a Plant Distribution
Day. Partnered with Flint’s own CRIM Americorps and Edible Flint, we tackled not only trash
and blight but we also shared healthy foods and encouraged the community to be outside and
grow their own gardens.
Thanks to Flint Edible, Latinx was able to pass out over 100 plants to the community. We had a
variety of plants including but not limited to peppers, collard greens, watermelons, tomatoes,
and spices like chives, sage, and basil to name a few. If community members were feeling bold
they also had the options of prepackaged seeds providing an assortment of peppers, herbs, and
general garden seeds.

“[My plants are…] Very pretty and green and healthy.”

                                        – Tatiana C.

Between Latinx and Americorp we were able to clean up natural brush and debris on ramps and
around the Latinx District. We were also able to start on the Latinx Greenhouse, a garden
project to be maintained throughout the summer.
If you are interested in volunteering, partnering, or sponsoring with The Latinx Center for
monthly clean ups or other events, feel free to contact the office at 810-715-5050 to learn more!
