Flint, MI- The MI Covid Alert App is now available in the apple store and google play store to download for free. The app alerts users if they were in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Michigan residents can submit their positive test results anonymously. Other users will never know who tested positive and are never asked for personal information such as an address, name, and age. According to Michigan’s latest press release, the app works along with side hand washing, mask-wearing, and social distancing, but does not replace them.
If a person tests positive, they can use the app to send out an alert to people they have been in close contact with. The contact tracing team will call the person and ask if they would like to submit their positive test on the app. The person does not have to agree, but if they do, then the tracing team will unlock the uploading function on the app. Only the DHHS can grant permission to submit the codes for positive tests. The notifications will appear both on your phone and in the app. The app will also provide guidance and further information for an individual who has tested positive.
Bridging language & cultural barriers para una comunidad saludable!
The main purpose of the app is to improve contact tracing and slow the spread of Covid-19. The app is entirely voluntary; users can delete the app whenever they would like. The app does not track or store your location information. The MI Covid Alert App allows for a practical way for communities to monitor the spread of the virus and alert the people when a positive case has been confirmed in surrounding areas.
